Learning Generalizable Skill Policy with Data-Efficient Unsupervised RL

Jongchan Park, Seungjun Oh, Seungho Baek, Yusung Kim

Unsupervised Reinforcement Learning (URL) aims to pre-train scalable, skill-conditioned policies without extrinsic rewards, serving as a foundation for downstream control tasks. Despite recent progress, we argue that current off-policy URL methods are limited by two critical, overlooked bottlenecks: (1) non-stationary skill semantics and (2) brittle generalization. To address these challenges, we propose GenDa (Generalizable Data-efficient Agent), a unified framework for robust unsupervised reinforcement learning. First, we introduce a skill relabeling mechanism to mitigate non-stationarity and significantly improve data efficiency for pre-training. Second, we propose a Complementary Information Bottleneck (CIB), encouraging the learned skill policy to focus on ego-centric features and become robust to distribution shifts for downstream tasks. Through various experiments, we demonstrate that GenDa significantly enhances the scalability of URL with superior generalizability and data efficiency. Our code and videos are available at https://ihatebroccoli.github.io/official-GenDa.

Teaching LLMs to Self-Evolve: Cultivating Core Meta-Skills with Reinforcement Learning

Shujin Wu, Cheng Qian, Xiusi Chen, Heng Ji

Test-time scaling through iterative self-evolution with environment feedback, as demonstrated by AlphaEvolve, shows remarkable performance gains. We hypothesize that the success of such evolution frameworks hinges on meta-skills, such as self-reflection with environment feedback,…

DreamQAS: Learning a Decision-Useful World Model for VQE-Efficient Quantum Architecture Search

Jiayang Niu, Yan Wang, Jie Li, Ke Deng, Azadeh Alavi, Muhammad Usman, et al.

Reinforcement-learning-based quantum architecture search (RL-QAS) repeatedly optimizes a variational quantum eigensolver (VQE) after extending a circuit, although circuit construction and action legality are deterministic and known. We introduce DreamQAS, a model-based RL framewo…

When Does On-Policy Interaction Help? Representational Tradeoffs in Value-Based Imitation Learning

Luca Viano, Antoine Moulin, Audrey Huang, Volkan Cevher, Philip Amortila, Dylan J. Foster

Imitation learning (IL)---training an agent to replicate expert behavior from demonstrations---underpins applications from robotics to language model training. Standard approaches such as Behavior Cloning (BC) are known to suffer from compounding errors and performance plateaus,…

One Hand Watches The Other: Dynamic Multi-Agent Cooperation for Sample-Efficient Bimanual Manipulation in Dynamic Environments

Jan Ole von Hartz, Abhinav Valada, Joschka Boedecker

Multi-stream robot manipulation policies achieve unparalleled sample efficiency and generalization by modeling actions relative to environmental reference frames. However, existing approaches typically assume these frames to be strictly exogenous. This causal assumption collapses…

DungeonBench: A Benchmark for Rules-Rich Tactical Reasoning in Dungeons & Dragons Combat

Ismayil Ismayilov, Atakan Kara, Kaan Oktay

Games and simulators make valuable benchmarks by turning decisions into measurable outcomes, but many current suites under-test rules-rich tactical reasoning: the ability to choose well when geometry, timing, resources, objectives, and rule interactions all matter at once. We int…

Versatile On-device Adaptation at the Edge by Unifying Few-shot, Zero-shot, Continual, and In-context Learning

Douwe den Blanken, Martin Lefebvre, Charlotte Frenkel

With the ever-increasing pervasiveness of smart edge devices, the demand is growing for applications that can be tailored to users (e.g., custom keyword spotting) or patients (e.g., adaptive health monitoring). Yet, most edge devices rely on fixed inference algorithms and thus ca…
