Rethinking Generative Reconstruction Attacks against Graph Neural Network Models

Adebayo Keji, Sayanton Dibbo

The application of graph data in numerous disciplines raises the need for gathering and analyzing huge volumes of data, some of which is private and sensitive. The non-Euclidean nature of the graph data makes the analysis computationally challenging, leading to the use of Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) in the age of AI. GNNs may inadvertently leak sensitive data they are trained on, which raises serious data security issues, including the model inversion attack. In this study, we analyze GNNs' vulnerabilities by introducing two novel graph inversion (i.e., reconstruction) attacks: graph-label conditioned (GLC) attack and embedding-label conditioned (ELC) attack, utilizing targetmodel predictions and their intermediate representations, respectively. We perform a comprehensive analysis of our introduced privacy attacks and compare them with existing baselines across three benchmark graph datasets (i.e., NCI1, PROTEINS, and AIDS) and four graph distributional/structural metrics (i.e., FGD, EGD, MMD, and GKS). Our work demonstrates that an adversary can use the generator-discriminator technique to reconstruct high-quality graphs in real-world black-box attack scenarios against GNNs. Additionally, we present a variant of our attacks (Ours--) with 50% reduced queries, achieving good or comparable reconstruction attack performance. In addition, we show that GNNs are highly vulnerable to privacy attacks, varying Laplacian noise-scales.

TriGlue: a Biology-Inspired Generative Model for Generating Molecular Glue-Induced Ternary Complex

Yuliang Yan, Shuo Yan, Haochun Tang, Yiqin Sun, Enyan Dai

Molecular glue degraders have emerged as a promising strategy for targeted protein degradation by inducing ternary complex formation between an E3 ubiquitin ligase and a target protein. Despite their therapeutic potential, computational design of molecular glues remains largely u…

Optimizing Transformer Neural Network for Real-Time Outlier Detection on FPGAs

Ilia Sobakinskikh, Paul Alexander Bilokon

In this work, we explore how the inference time of a Transformer Neural Network can be efficiently optimized with applications to real-time anomaly detection in financial time series. The financial time series are price series such as asset prices. Unfortunately, the data is ofte…

Implicit Machine Learning Force Fields Accelerate Molecular Dynamics Simulations

Johannes Maeß, Leon Werner, J. Thorben Frank, Winfried Ripken, Martin Michajlow, Joshua Futterer, et al.

We introduce implicit machine learning force fields (I-MLFFs), which replace explicit stacks of neural network layers with self-consistent fixed-point equations. In molecular simulations, this formulation enables intermediate representations to be reused across successive timeste…

\k{appa}-LoRA: Condition Numbers Reveal Which LoRA Matrices Worth Updating

Jianghui Wang, Silong Yong, Francesco Orabona, Marco Canini, Katia P. Sycara, Yaqi Xie

Low-Rank Adaptation (LoRA) has become a widely adopted technique for efficient neural network fine-tuning, decomposing model updates into low-rank matrices. However, LoRA remains computationally costly because it updates all matrices uniformly, regardless of their actual contribu…

Reasoning Denoiser: Denoising Reasoning Traces for Hallucination Detection in Large Reasoning Models

Junlin Fang, Do Nguyen-Thanh, Xiaogang Xu, Zhen Fang, Sean Du

Large reasoning models (LRMs) generate long reasoning traces before producing final answers. While these traces may contain useful signals for hallucination detection, harnessing them is non-trivial because long trajectories often include noisy steps that obscure the cues relevan…
