We propose Emputation, a deep generative framework for learning imputation models. Emputation targets the extrapolation distribution of missing variables given observed variables, and training is guided by specific missingness assumptions that guarantee identification of the target distribution. The training objective, called the emputation risk, is an energy-score-based risk in which the identification assumption determines how observed entries are masked and which observations contribute to training. The resulting framework enables direct conditional sampling for multiple imputation. We show that the population minimizer of the emputation risk recovers the target extrapolation distribution under a broad class of identification assumptions, including several missing-not-at-random assumptions. Simulations show strong performance under both pointwise and distributional evaluation metrics, and an application to an Alzheimer's disease dataset demonstrates its practical value.
Many problems in science and engineering are difficult to model accurately, either due to unknown physical mechanisms, poorly quantified measurement uncertainty, or prohibitive computational costs of high-fidelity simulations. These challenges limit the applicability of classical…
Stochastic-process models are, as a rule, far easier to simulate than to condition. Non-linear observations, non-Gaussian likelihoods, black-box information, and global constraints all induce intractable conditional laws, requiring bespoke, model-specific constructions. We introd…
High-dimensional categorical data arise in genetics, biomedicine, and the social sciences, yet visualization tools for such data remain far less developed than those for continuous variables. Existing methods either scale poorly, rely heavily on low-dimensional displays detached…
Estimating contemporaneous bidirectional interactions from observational data is difficult because each outcome is endogenous to the other, while flexible regressions may capture only reduced-form dependence. This paper proposes SEM-DNN, a heteroscedastic neural simultaneous-equa…
Learning high-fidelity point-cloud features in the 3D space poses significant challenges, including permutation invariance, lack of local context, difficulty in fine-grained surface reconstruction, and high computational cost. In this article, we propose Trans-Unet, a novel frame…
Uncertainty quantification (UQ) is essential to experimental mechanics, but has become particularly relevant in computational mechanics, manifesting in two fundamental problem types: forward and inverse problems. The former addresses how input uncertainties propagate to the quant…
