AEGIR: Modeling Area Emitters for Indoor Inverse Rendering using Gaussian Splatting

Mohamed Shawky Sabae, Philipp Langsteiner, Jan-Niklas Dihlmann, Hendrik Lensch

Inverse rendering requires separating illumination from surface materials, which is highly ambiguous due to their tight coupling in observed images. While Gaussian Splatting is efficient for novel view synthesis, existing relightable methods approximate scene lighting using discrete point lights, global environment maps, or implicit representations. By ignoring the physical spatial extent of real-world emitters, these approaches produce incorrect light attenuation and unrealistic shadows. We present AEGIR (Area Emitters for Gaussian Inverse Rendering), a framework that explicitly models local area emitters within a relightable Gaussian Splatting representation. Joint optimization of emitters, materials, and geometry is challenging due to flexible emitter parameterization, which increases both the number of parameters and the ambiguity between illumination and materials. We address this by introducing a differentiable deferred rendering pipeline that integrates multiple importance sampling with targeted regularization. As a result, AEGIR accurately simulates local light transport and achieves more consistent decomposition. Experiments show that explicit area emitters improve illumination reconstruction and enhance downstream tasks, including novel view synthesis, controlled relighting, and virtual object insertion, particularly in scenes with complex local lighting.

Deformable Triangle Splatting: Flexible Primitives for Real-Time Radiance Field Rendering

Oriol Jiménez-Ayguadé, Antonio Agudo

Recent radiance field methods represent scenes with 2D primitives that offer surface alignment and efficient rasterization, from Gaussian disks to triangles, yet all rely on convex boundaries: curved and concave structures demand excessive primitives. We introduce Deformable Tria…

Learning-based Seam Correspondence Reconstruction in Sewing Patterns

Zhendong Wang, Jintong Wang, Chen Liu, Yao Jin, Ligang Liu, Huamin Wang

Digital sewing patterns typically consist of disjoint 2D panels without explicit stitch annotations, making downstream 3D modeling reliant on labor-intensive expert specification. In this paper, we present a graph-based learning framework that reconstructs two-level stitching inf…

ATSplat: Compact Feed-forward 3D Gaussian Splatting with Adaptive Token Expansion

Cho In, Jeonghwan Cho, Mijin Yoo, Gim Hee Lee, Seon Joo Kim

3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) achieves high-quality novel-view synthesis by optimizing freely placed primitives in 3D and adaptively densifying them in under-reconstructed regions. However, this scene-adaptive capacity allocation is largely lost in existing feed-forward 3DGS metho…

FillGS: Filling Observation Gaps in 4D Gaussian Splatting via Viewpoint-Time Selection and Generative Refinement

Takashi Otonari, Toshihiko Yamasaki

4D Gaussian Splatting (4DGS) can render dynamic scenes photorealistically. However, with limited viewpoint coverage, some spatiotemporal regions remain sparsely observed, leading to artifacts, particularly in scenes with large motion. Existing approaches leveraging generative mod…
