Meaning Does Not Disappear. Meaning Changes State: A Concept Note on Dynamic Semantic ER and Zen

Shigeo Asano

This concept note presents a concise authorial statement of selected foundational propositions of Dynamic Semantic ER, an original framework for observing how Meaning arises, changes state, and may undergo Structural Update within a Meaning Field. The note introduces the central proposition “Meaning does not disappear. Meaning changes state.” It outlines the roles of Entity, Relation, Difference, Observation, Purpose Function, Meaning Field, Meaning Trace, Structural Update, Time, Dynamic Key, and the Meaning states Active, Freeze, Open Freeze, Trace, and Cut. Dynamic Semantic ER did not originate from Zen, Buddhism, mindfulness, psychotherapy, or an existing philosophical system. Its initial formulation arose from the author’s practical experience in finance, management accounting, information systems, data modelling, organisational analysis, and generative AI. Resonances with Zen and Buddhist concepts were identified subsequently and are treated as comparative and interpretive connections rather than as the origin of the theory. This document is not peer reviewed. It does not present clinical, psychological, diagnostic, religious, or doctrinal claims. It does not claim that Meaning states can be determined objectively or uniquely, nor that state change guarantees recovery, success, permanence, or reversibility. This concept note is an independently written authorial statement of selected foundational propositions of Dynamic Semantic ER. It is not an excerpt, abridged edition, condensed edition, or substitute for the author’s published books.
